Enlisting

The 9th Texas is group devoted to the accurate portrayal of the common soldier during the War Between the States. The 9th has built a reputation for our authenticity and we are always looking for new recruits.  The 9th is organized into five companies forming a battalion with members in Lubbock, San Antonio, Houston, central Texas and of course, Dallas and Ft. Worth.

Civil War Reenactor Self-qualifying Questionnaire
Am I healthy, can I walk 3 or more miles?
Can I handle hot, cold, wet weather for a weekend?
Do I have weekends off or can I get them off for events and drills?
Do I have vacation enough to attend events if needed?
Can I make events out of state and as far away as Tennessee?
Do I think I might be able to spend up towards $1500.00 over the next 12 months to secure equipment and uniform?

If the answer is yes to most or all of the above questions and I really want to experience the life of a Civil War soldier then yes, I’m ready to enlist with the largest and most drilled unit in the State of Texas.
What are the Regulations for members?

Uniform and Equipment Regulations

How do I join?

It's easy, just email one of our recruiters and they will send you the information that you need to join.  You can also print the enrollment form and send it in with your dues.

How much are dues?

Dues are $30 a year and help pay for the newsletter and help fund our recruiting efforts.

What are the age requirements?

Any male 16 and older can fall in as a soldier. Young men, 12-15 can join as musicians as long as they are functioning musicians. Young men 12 and older can join our cadet corp.

How much will my gear cost?

This can vary. We encourage new members not to go right out and purchase items until they have met with us. The cost of getting started will run about $750-$900. We have a list of approved vendors and individuals from which you can purchase your gear. We give a new member 6-9 months to get his gear together.

How often do you meet?

We generally meet once a month for drill, usually at Samuel Farms in Mesquite. In addition to drills, we attend at 6 battle reenactments throughout the south with an emphasis on events in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.

What are the membership requirements?

To be considered an active member of the Ninth Texas you must attend 4 drills a year and attend one regional battle reenactment and one national reenactment. We think that you will have so much fun that you will want to attend much more than this.

How can I get more information?

To get more information on the 9th just send us an email.  We will be glad to assist you in any way! We look forward to seeing you in the field
